Sara Juel Andersen is a Danish artist currently based in London. In 2020 she graduated from the MFA Fine Art Programme at Goldsmith University, having previously achieved a Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art.
Working primarily with oil paint and colour pencil drawing, she creates works that evoke the vibrancy and slow-moving agency of the natural environment. Her primary focus lies in understanding our preconceptions and misconceptions about our environment, specifically how our romantic perceptions of nature are challenged by the oddity and eeriness of the active environment.
Alien and disorienting representations of our natural environment emerge through areal views and horizonless landscapes. There is an attempt to capture the energy of fluid movement, while simultaneously exaggerating the vividness of colours to create a sensation of vibration and movement. At times evoking an uncanny liveliness, that may contrast the perceived passivity of our environment.
